Trace Trail In the News

On a beautiful early-November afternoon, I finally took a walk on the Trace Trail and especially the Roland Sherman Memorial section of the trail that features his sculptures that I have watched over the past twenty years.

I enjoyed a look at the Sherman sculptures, especially as a fellow from the DNR told me that he and another person spent a few days sprucing up the sculptures, which indeed look much nicer than I have seen them for at least a decade.

Good, too, to see students on the trail looking

at the sculptures and visiting Genie Hollow.

And I got a message a couple days ago from a woman who writes a blog/e-journal about this and that matter. She asked if she could use my photographs for the article she eventually wrote for Only in Your State.  

She not only used a bunch of my shots from the Trace Trail, but she also included a video I made of the sculptures a year or so after  Roland Sherman's death and linked to a page about the sculptures on this blog.

Thirty and Sixty Year Reunion at PSC

The day before this year's Homecoming, I attended the receptions for and the banquet for the 30-year alumni and the 50-year alumni from Peru State College.


I enjoyed talking with the folks at both the receptions, in the Fine Arts Recital Hall and at the President's house.   They have lots of wonderfully interesting stories to share, and what fun to meet these folks, most of whom I had not previously met.

The fun continued at the banquet on that Friday evening when the PSC Pep Band made an appearance and played the college' fight song.

I served at the PSC Foundation's photographer and got fun photographs of the group.

Trebuchet at PSC

I missed last year's trebuchet fun when a car got hit, but I made sure to take some pictures and a bit of video this time around, Tuesday, November 10.

Dr. Paul Hinrich's Physics class constructed six different models of trebuchets and tested them out at 3:00 in the afternoon behind AV Larson. 

Take a look at the photographs. 

Each of the machines attempted to hoist an Osage Orange into the air and hit a target in the field adjacent to the road behind Larson.  And the student-constructed devices smacked the target a number of  times.

A couple of trebuchets lofted the lime-colored projectile beyond the target and into the woods.

I also made a short video--with some slow motion--to show a couple of the machines in action.

I also recorded from a couple years ago, another entertaining display of trebuchet at PSC.

Rocky Picture Horror Show and The Best Little Whore House in Hades

I took photographs this fall at two of the Peru Theater Company's premier events, The Rocky Horror Pictures Show and this year's edition of the Haunted House:  Best Little Whore House in Hades.

First of all, the students and their director, Josh Young, did a grand job.  

The photographs will give you a feel for the play's robust presentation--not to mention its colorful display.   I am glad that I got to the final show, a great one.


The Friday before Homecoming, after the banquet honoring PSC graduates from thirty and fifty years ago, I checked out this year's manifestation of the haunted house.

And, as usual, the Peru Theater Company, put on a scream of a show that made me jump multiple times.

I wish that more pictures turned out from my guided walk through the horror of The Best Little Whorehouse in Hades; however, bright lights and horror do not make for many hills.

Nebraska's Toughest Mile

Well, Nebraska's Toughest Mile made the evening news, a race in which over 70 folks took part, a record.

In the past, I did not take pictures at the race because of all the other Saturday, Homecoming events in which I get involved.  However, I am most pleased to have taken photographs this time around and not just because of the television
 
"Go Bobcats, Go Bobcats...

The costumes are pretty wonderful.  One Thing and Two Thing won, as I understand. 

The banana cracked me up.  And Hayden Kusy's garb for a chilly day?  Love the guy.

After the race, I went directly downtown to announce the Best Little Parade in Nebraska.

And I got in the video at the very end!

At the race's conclusion, all the participants, including the dogs, looked a tad tired but happy in the early morning of Homecoming.
