Joe Wilkins

On Thursday, April 8, poet and essayist Joe Wilkins gave a well-received poetry reading in the PSC Library and then visited with Dr. Tammy Trucks-Bordeaux's Appreciation of Literature class.

Joe Wilkins heads the Creative Writing Program at Waldorf College, where Dr. Dan Hanson served for many years before coming to Peru Sate College.

To learn more about Joe and to read some of his prize-winning poetry and essays, pay a visit to his excellent and informative web page.

On Thursday, Joe read from his chapbook, Ragged Point Road, and delighted the audience gathered in the Peru State Library with his sensitive and insightful verses about, among other things, his experiences teaching high-school students in rural Mississippi and his relatives in Montana, where he grew up.

Joe read for us in the College Library, in the comfortable alcove by the fire place, a
first for the Creative Writing Series that featured this February Nebraska Poet Twyla Hansen.

I hope to have more readings in the library.

You will find a few photographs posted from Joe's visit.

In addition, I published a couple short videos from the reading; watch and listen, and
you will experience some of the library audience's pleasure: Part One and Part Two.

Joe also conducted on Friday morning in the CATS Conference Room the first Creative Writing Workshop we have offered in many years.

I look forward to trying to match next fall the success Joe Wilkins enjoyed here Thursday and Friday.
